Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection - Review

OUR SCORE - 10/10

There must be hardly anyone left in the world who hasn't played Uncharted 4. Whether you're a long-time fan of the series or a newcomer, Uncharted 4 is the quintessential PlayStation game. And now, Sony and Naughty Dog have brought it once again, in all its glory, to the PlayStation 5, adding a host of new features to make it even better.

Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection is a package that remasters and combines Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy together for the PS5.

With the added capabilities of the PS5, both games get a welcome upgrade. The games can now be played in three settings: Fidelity, Performance, or Performance + mode. For those who have a 4K screen, the Fidelity mode with native 4K and 30 FPS offers a beautiful image. Those who find 60 FPS more important can choose Performance mode and for those who really want to play smooth, Performance + is available, with a target of 120 fps. But then you play in a 1080p resolution.

We chose the Fidelity mode with HDR for most of this review and it looks beautiful! Now, Uncharted games have always been gems to watch, but in 4K and with HDR you really look forward to seeing, especially when you reach the Hindustani Hoysala. The beautiful images are even more vivid and the vegetation even more realistic. More than once we have managed to find a hidden treasure, not because a clue circle appeared on the screen, but purely because of the sparkle between the undergrowth. Then you really feel like a treasure hunter!

The DualSense controller is also put to work. Naughty Dog nicely shows here how the haptic feedback can really help the experience without getting in the way of the gameplay, but also that it listens very closely.

Both these games belong to the top that Sony has shown on the PS4 and with the graphic upgrade that is offered here, that comes into its own even more. If you can use one of the upgrade paths, then that choice is made very easy. Especially if you only own one of the two games, the upgrade is an excellent deal and you should not miss it.
